Meet Kelly and Todd

Meet Kelly and Todd of Criminal Justice Know How

Kelly and Todd met 20 years ago when Kelly began working for the same police department at which Todd was working. They were assigned to the same patrol division on both midnight and daylight shifts and later worked together in the Criminal Investigations Division as detectives. Kelly and Todd also participated in undercover work funded by the Alcohol Beverage Control Authority.

When Kelly left the law enforcement profession and began working in the victim advocacy field, Todd, who served his department as the Domestic Violence Coordinator, became a liaison and sexual/domestic abuse trainer for new volunteers at the organization for which Kelly worked. Todd served as a resource for advocates, volunteers, and victims who had questions about law enforcement’s response to sexual and domestic violence.

As an advocate and program director of the sexual assault crisis center, Kelly helped bridge the gap between law enforcement and victim advocates, which in turn benefitted and helped better serve victims of violence.

Because of her knowledge of and having worked various disciplines in the criminal justice field, Kelly has always been an excellent resource for Todd, who relies often on her sound advice and encouragement.

When Kelly became a criminal justice instructor, Todd assisted Kelly in teaching about the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), body worn cameras, and internal investigations. Kelly’s constant pursuit of knowledge of and experience in all things criminal justice related ensures that both Todd and Kelly are current and up to date regarding trends and policy changes in the criminal justice field.

Throughout the years, Kelly and Todd have maintained a professional and personal relationship through reassignments, promotions, career changes, marriages, divorces, the births and upbringing of three smart and talented boys, and many, many 5ks, mud runs, and other fitness related pursuits. When they’re not working out or working on criminal justice related projects, you can find them at various breakfast diners, vintage shopping venues, local sporting events, and anywhere cold beer is served.
