Forensic Nurses Week
Forensic Nurse Examiners, or FNEs, are a specially trained type of nurse who objectively evaluates patients that present to a medical facility or advocacy center as victims of a crime. They serve both adults and children.
Whether or not a victim moves forward in the criminal justice system, FNEs interview patients, evaluate and document injuries, and help determine what diagnostics should be completed. If a case does move through the criminal justice system, FNEs are trained to testify in court to the facts in a case, including injuries observed and documented, as well as evidence that was collected during an exam.
Thank you to all of the Forensic Nurses around the world who serve as a resource for healing and support to victims of crime, and special thanks to our local Forensic Nursing Program that saw 855 patients last year and consulted in over 500 more cases!
