One of the benefits to working in the criminal justice system is that there are so many niches in which a criminal justice practitioner can become an expert. For example, a law enforcement officer can develop a real passion for crisis negotiations and may pursue training and certification in that specialized area of police work, or a prosecutor may feel a sense of duty toward holding domestic violence offenders accountable and may request to work within a domestic violence prosecution unit in their office. A forensic nurse examiner can become extremely proficient in recognizing the signs and symptoms of strangulation in patients who survive years of abuse in the home.
As criminal justice practitioners, it’s simply impossible to become a specialist in EVERY area of the system, so we welcome the expertise of those who have made niches within the criminal justice system their passion!
